Amateur Radio

I am an amateur radio operator. My dad, who was a general for most of his lie, got me into the hobby and I earned my General when he challenged me to do so. Of course, not to be outdone, my dad joined me at the VEC session and earned his extra. He is now a silent key.

I have a degree in Broadcast Communications and have been on-air talent for radio stations in the 3rd largest market in the US. Realizing there is no money in radio I didn’t stay in the industry but picked up the bug. My primary interest is emergency communications and, prior to moving to New York, I was active in my local club, ARES, and Skywarn. I was also a member of the Lutheran Emergency Response Team (LERT)

I kinda fell out of the hobby after a total loss fire and moving to Wilton. Kinda hard to be active without a radio. Then I moved.

I currently live in East Greenbush and volunteer in Bethlehem. I currently have a Radioddity GS-5B radio. It isn’t as cool as the ICOM T70A I had before my fire but it works good enough for what I use it for. I just need to find a way back into emergency communications.

In addition to my amateur radio communications I do have an interest in listening to various radios. As a first responder I, obviously, have to listen to the scanner. I have a couple old Radio Shack scanners and a newer Uniden…
